Great Britain
The United Kingdom, or UK, is made up of the countries of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Its full name is the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
Great Britain is the official name given to the two kingdoms of England and Scotland, and the principality of Wales. Britain is an island lying off the western coast of Europe, and is the main territory of the United Kingdom.

The capital is London, which is among the world's leading commercial, financial, and cultural centres. Other major cities include Birmingham, Liverpool, and Manchester and Leeds in England, Belfast and Londonderry in Northern Ireland, Edinburgh and Glasgow in Scotland, and Swansea and Cardiff in Wales.
With a population of just over 60 million, the UK welcomes more than 20 million visitors from all over the globe every year.
If you are planning on touring around the UK, then Britain’s Tourist Information Centres are a great place to start. Centre’s are based across London, England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Island and the Channel Islands.
Emergency situations
In an emergency that requires police, fire services or an ambulance you should dial 999 free from any telephone. In the case of a non-emergency crime you should contact your local police station.

We strongly advise that you take out adequate insurance before you leave to cover you for any health and medical issues, and also for theft or damage to your belongings.
