"Contracting has been a great route for me to continue to work and provide a second income for my family. I particularly enjoy the fact that I can off-set some of my meals and travel expenses against tax, giving me more in my pay packet. "
David Howarth
Retired Policeman
"After 30 years of service with Humberside Police and as a retired policeman I was keen to get a second income and had the opportunity to contract. I was advised to speak with JSA through the agency, however found the process confusing initially to understand if I was self-employed or not. At first I found the whole transition from working as a direct employee of the police force to working independently under JSA’s Contractor Umbrella a little daunting, however found the professionalism and information from JSA handling all my administration exemplary.
Contracting has been a great route for me to continue to work and provide a second income for my family. I particularly enjoy the fact that I can off-set some of my meals and travel expenses against tax, giving me more in my pay packet. The only downside is Humberside Police have stopped funding the agency due to budget constraints as direct staff, were opting to become contractors as they wanted to enjoy the financial rewards. I am hoping to secure another role with another agency and will continue to use JSA as required."
