What is IR35?
IR35 is not simply some obscure acronym reserved for the minority - it is a complex piece of legislation which affects anyone working in the temporary, freelance and contractor market!
IR35 is used by the Government to establish your employment status, to ensure that when you pay your taxes you are paying the correct amounts for the type of worker you are.
How will it affect me as a freelancer?
Although IR35 affects all freelancers working in the UK, it is the terms and conditions laid out in your contract and your working practices that dictates how it affects you. Freelancers ‘caught’ by IR35 will be taxed as an employee and as such are likely to pay more tax than a contractor (not caught) who can demonstrate that they are in business on their own.
Determining whether you are caught by IR35 or not is your responsibility and no one else can make this
